Buying directly from farms in Beaver County is easier than most people think, and it is far more rewarding than a grocery run. Here is how to do it well.
Know the ways to buy
**Farm direct pickup.** You order from the farm and pick up on site. This is how we operate at Bryant Creek Heights, with pickup at our farm in Conway coordinated by text.
**Farmers markets.** Seasonal, good for meeting several producers in one stop, and usually limited to warm months.
**Farm stands.** Self serve or staffed roadside stands, often honor system.
**Buying clubs and bulk shares.** Whole and half animal purchases, best value per pound, requires freezer space.
Questions worth asking
The people actually raising your food will answer these happily. Anyone who dodges them is telling you something.
That last one matters. Some sellers at markets are reselling wholesale product. There is nothing illegal about it, but it is not the same thing as buying from the farm.
What is realistically available near Conway
Within a short drive of Conway, Freedom, Ambridge, Baden, and out toward Cranberry and Zelienople, you can reasonably find pasture-raised pork, chicken, eggs, local honey, seasonal produce, and beef. Seasonality is real. Eggs slow in deep winter, chicken comes in batches, and honey is harvested once or twice a year.
